The widening of the existing two lane to four lane from Karamana to Kaliyikkavila in NH-47 in Thiruvananthapuram district is for a length of 29 Kms with MoRTH standards. This includes the construction of a major bridge at Amaravila, minor bridges, cut and covers and CD structures. The alignment plan of the project road from Karamana to Vazhimukku is prepared as Phase I; in which one minor bridge at Pallichal, two cut and covers, 11 culverts and 10 junctions are proposed.
Initially, the design for the alignment was prepared for 30.2m Right of Way (RoW) with six lane divided carriageway of 10.5m each and later it was revised for a four lane divided carriageway of 7.5m each, 3m paved shoulders, 1.5m footpath/earthen shoulders, 1.6m utility corridors on either sides and 3.0m median; by incorporating the suggestions such as provision for proposed Monorail etc. Side drains are provided throughout the stretch and signalized junctions are also proposed. The alignment is designed for a speed of 80Kmph; except at some locations the design speed is restricted to 65Kmph.
