Thiruvananthapuram Central Railway Station to Become a Heritage Station

Southern railway is in the process of developing Thiruvananthapuram Central Railway station into a Heritage station. Ministry of Tourism and State Government will jointly provide financial assistance for Southern Railway to complete the project, as railway is facing huge financial crissis.

A total of Rs.10 crore is estimated for the project, which includes escalators, restrooms, addition of ticket counters etc. The plan is to upgrade Thiruvananthapuram Central railway station to international standards without loosing the British build building’s heritage.

Railway Protection Force (RPF) has decided to install a High Security System linking Thiruvananthapuram, Ernakulam and Kozhikode. The control room will come up at the first floor of Thiruvananthapuram Central railway station, which is currently being used as restroom for RPF. A total of Rs5 crore is alloted for the security of all railway stations in Kerala.
