The decision on the proposed monorail project for Thiruvananthapuram city will be taken today. The entire phase of the project is from Technocity near Pallippuram to Neyyattinkara. The project will be implemented in two phases with the first phase from Technocity to Thampanoor and the second phase from Thampanoor to Neyyattinkara. The major hurdle for the second phase is the approval from Railway authorities as it crosses the railway tracks at Thampanoor. The Monorail will end near Municipal Bus Station Neyyattinkara. First phase of the project is expected to be commissioned by 2016 and the second phase by 2018.
A total of Rs.3000 crores is expected for the first phase and Rs.2500 crores for the second phase. Technocity extention, Technocity, Pallipuram (Proposed for the yard), Thamarakulam, Kaniyapuram, RVTI Junction, Kazhakkoottam, Kariyavattom, Pangappara Guru Mandir, Pangappara CH Memorial School, Sreekariyam, Pongumoodu, Ulloor, Kesavadasapuram, Pattom, Plamoodu, Palayam, Statue, Thampanoor etc. are the stops proposed in the first phase.
A total of 100 low floor buses will be used for feeder service from various sub urban areas of the city. Single ticketing system will be introduced for passengers using the feeder services to reach monorail stations from various parts of the city and then the Monorail. Pothencode – Sreekariyam, Attingal – Technocity, Neyyattinkara – Poovar, Vattiyoorkavu – Sasthamangalam – Thampanoor, Vattapara – Kesavadasapuram etc are the proposed routes for feeder service.
