Once the proposed Thiruvananthapuram – Kasargode High Speed Rail (HSR) starts functioning the ticket charges would be twice or thrice the charge of a normal 1st class train ticket. One have to pay Rs. 1000-2000 for a journey from Thiruvananthapuram to Ernakulam & if it extends to Kasargode it will be Rs 2500-3000. There are no 1st Class/2nd Class classification in HSR, instead it would be classified as an aircraft scenario ie; Business Class & Economy Class ! The above mentioned rates are for a typical Economic Class ticket.
It is estimatted that if the work for HSR project starts in 2013 the first phrase of the project, which is upto Ernakulam would be completed by 2018.The ticket charges would be finalised according to the construction cost,Airfare,Taxi charges etc during that period. The estimated time to reach Ernakulam is 53 minutes.
A total of eight coaches will be available in a HSR, of these 95% will be of Economy Class and the rest will be of Business Class. The seat configuration for HSR will be 3 + 2 for Economy class and 2 + 2 for Business class.
