The newly installed LED lighting system of Lotus shaped parnasala at Santhigiri ashram at Pothenkode in Thiruvananthapuram will be switched on, on February 22.The multi-colour LEDs will light up the lotus in full bloom in connection with poojithapeedam samarpanam celebrations.
The 91-feet tall lotus shaped hermitage made of white marble is being lit up by a team of experts from a Canada-based lighting solution provider. The entire system of lighting is designed by famous cinematographer S Kumar.
About 15,000 LEDs will be arranged across 1,162 fixtures. The exterior and interior of lotus image, including 21 petals, will be lit up by a multi-colour display of lights. The inner sanctum and the image of Karunakara Guru will be lit using light reflected from special mirrors placed on top.
Spot LEDs are mounted on inner pillars that will throw seven colours intermittently onto the parasol. Wall washing lights planted at ground level will illumine the inside pillars. At the passages, warm white high density LED lights are installed as down lights.
The interior of the lotus motif, including the sarakoodam, the inner and outer pillars, balalayam and the petal shaped gate will be lit by variant hues. President Pratibha Patil had opened the parnasala on August 13, 2010. The monument built of marble is realized as the final resting place of the Ashram’s founder Navajyothisree Karunakara Guru.
