Global Ayurveda Festival Kerala 2012 Begins Today @ Thiruvananthapuram

Residents of the state capital,Thiruvananthapuram will be rejuvenated by the energizing touch of Ayurveda for the next few days. The national ‘Arogya Expo’, the awareness-cum-educational exhibition organised as part of the Global Ayurveda Festival will take place from 9 to 14 February here. The exhibition will be inaugurated by the Andra Pradesh Health Minister D.L. Ravindra Reddy at Kanakakunnu on Thursday.

There will be more than 300 stalls exhibiting the diverse aspects of Ayurveda, Siddha, Unani, Homeo, Yoga and Naturopathy, the various traditional branches of Indian medicine and treatment systems.

The stalls will display surgical tools and equipment used in ancient India, medicinal plants that have been mentioned in Charaka Samhita and Hortus Malabaricus and a few stalls arranged by the students of government and private Ayurveda colleges on various disciplines in Ayurveda.

An exclusive pavilion for the Rare, Endangered and Threatened (RET) Species will also be set up to create awareness among the public on the need for conserving these precious herbs.

“The ‘Arogya Expo’ intends to promote Ayurvedic therapies at international levels and it is completely a public education campaign. This is organised along with the Global Ayurveda Festival where the experts will interact with the interested applicants,” said Dr. C Suresh Kumar, General Secretary, Centre for Innovation in Science and Social Action (CISSA)

Free consultation will be open for the public in Multi- specialty ‘Ayush Clinics’ from 9 am to 6 pm on all days of the festival. Prominent scholars and physicians will mingle with the public in the awareness programs and workshops arranged in the pavilions. A huge food court will be set up on the sidelines of the exhibition which will provide special food items prescribed in Ayurveda (pathya ahara).

The chief Ayurvedic medicine manufactures in India and institutions under the Department of Indian System of Medicine, Care Keralam, Kinfra and Kerala State Council for Science, Technology and Environment will also participate in the grand fair.
