International Centre for Free & Open Source Software (ICFOSS) is organizing the 4th International FOSS Conference in Thiruvananthapuram from December 27 to 29.
The event will have representatives from India, Africa, Latin America, Europe, and the US. IT minister P K Kunhalikutty will inaugurate the conference. S V Raghavan, scientific secretary, office of the principal scientific adviser to the government of India, New Delhi, who is one of the architects of the National Knowledge Network, will deliver the keynote address on the theme “Open Source Software as the Basis to Create National Software Assets”, during the inaugural session. The inaugural ceremony will be followed by two days of technical sessions at Technopark, according to a statement from the organisers here on Wednesday.
The conference, organized around the theme of “A Decade of FOSS: Looking back, looking forward,” aims at reviewing the last 10 years of FOSS in Kerala.
The event is organised by ICFOSS and supported by the Software Freedom Law Centre (SFLC), Delhi; Computer Society of India (CSI); and the Institution of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE). The conference will take up one of the new developments stimulated by the FOSS movement, Open Hardware, which enables creation of royalty-free, programmable, customizable hardware for a wide range of local applications. The technical sessions in FOSSK4 will highlight developments in Open Hardware.
